LEGO Sorting and Packaging Session 1

Our goal
To collect idle Lego sets and pieces that are mixed together, sort them back into their original sets, and package them for donation to children in need.
The story
Ongoing renovations on the upper levels of Bourne’s house temporarily forced him and his family to move into their basement. What stood out to him most when he had to reorganize the space was the abundance of idle Lego bricks from his childhood.
Given that Bourne no longer plays with them, they are simply taking up space and gathering dust. He recognized how wasteful it would be to throw it all away when it could still bring joy and value to others. At that moment, the idea of redistributing items that one no longer needs to others who do need it came to his mind. Acting on this thought, Bourne established Your Footprints and organized the first event to be Lego Sorting & Packaging.

Overview – The Event
On December 22, 2024, Your Footprints organized an event designed to engage high school students in a community service project that involves collecting idle or spare Lego sets and pieces that are mixed together, sorting them back into their original sets, and packaging them for donation to children in need, specifically elementary students and children who do not have these toys to play with.
The event spanned for four hours long at the Dunbar Community Centre in Vancouver. Volunteers each received an instruction book for a corresponding Lego set and was tasked to find all the pieces of the set from the large pile of Legos.

“I thought it was a positive experience. It’s way harder than I expected it to be to sort Legos. But now I appreciate the hard work of the people who do sort the Legos.”
